Trade unions in Finland

A high organizing rate in trade unions

One of the main pillars of the Finnish system is a high rate of membership in labor market organizations. Finland has one of the highest rates of union membership in the industrialized world, with 80 per cent of employees organized in trade unions.

Membership of a union is like insurance - protection for future. Trade unions offer their members assistance on salary and labor market questions, legal advice, insurance benefits, professional publications and courses. Membership of an union gives automatically one a membership of the unemployment fund which is essential for unemployment security.

All university students may already join a union during their studies, if they wish to.
